Illinois has the most units of government per capita in the U.S., according to Township Officials of Illinois. An Illinois Auditor General report found over 100 state boards inactive, with 28% of active boards failing to meet minimum requirements.

One such “zombie board” is the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority (ISFA), created to oversee Guaranteed Rate Field for the Chicago White Sox. Critics argue the ISFA has outlived its purpose, continuing to operate with limited oversight and no clear role. Taxpayers remain burdened by subsidizing stadiums for billionaire owners, which have historically been poor public investments, leaving debts from past upgrades unpaid. More here…
